Fort Payne, Alabama Hi there! I’m an artist who loves to dive into the world of primarily abstract art. My creative journey is a bit unique — I often switch up my art forms to keep things fresh and exciting, which I attribute to my ADHD. Being diagnosed as autistic in my 50s was also a game-changer for me, helping me understand many of my life’s challenges. I tend to gravitate toward highly meticulous and meditative work. I grew up in central Alabama and spent 25 years in education as a teacher and school library media specialist. Five years ago, I traded the classroom for a cozy home in Fort Payne, where I work from home. Now, I get to spend more of my days creating art and soaking up the great outdoors, whether I’m hiking, kayaking, or just exploring nature with my spouse and our four furry friends. Art has been a huge part of my healing journey, helping me navigate through past traumas. I learned many creative skills from my mom while growing up, like sewing, crocheting, and needlework, which sparked my passion for making things by hand. I even have a little secret garden tucked away in the woods behind our home, full of surprises! With each piece I create, my hope is to bring you joy and inspiration. I feel like I honor my inner child when working on my art. I love adding meaningful or funny quotes to the backs of my work, making each piece a little more special. My work is an exploration of reconnecting with the inner child—a space where curiosity, play, and imagination are not only welcomed but essential. Through acrylic painting, I create abstract and whimsical pieces that invite both myself and the viewer to step outside of structure and into freedom. I am drawn to intuitive processes, often incorporating elements of zentangle, dot painting, and layered mark-making. These repetitive and meditative techniques allow each piece to evolve organically, without rigid expectations. I work primarily with acrylic paints and paint pens, embracing bold color, texture, and movement to create visual stories that feel both spontaneous and deeply personal. I also enjoy incorporating recycled materials and painting on unconventional surfaces, giving new life to discarded or overlooked objects. This approach reflects my belief that creativity exists everywhere, and that beauty can emerge from the unexpected. At its core, my art is about rediscovery—of joy, of play, and of self. It is an invitation to loosen control, to embrace imperfection, and to reconnect with the simple, expressive freedom we often leave behind in childhood.
