Lacy Hope Dobbs is a folk artist based on Sand Mountain in northeast Alabama. Entirely self-taught, Lacy works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas, wood, walls, and windows—using whatever materials are available to bring her bright, nostalgic visions to life. With a style inspired by the art and spirit of the 1960s and ’70s, her whimsical, psychedelic work evokes the joy, color, and simplicity of “the good old days.” Raised with a deep love for nature, southern culture, and vintage music and design, Lacy’s art is rooted in both her childhood memories and her lifelong fascination with flower child ideals. Her murals, shop windows, and home décor paintings are beloved throughout her community, known for making people smile and stirring sweet memories in viewers of all ages. When she’s not painting, Lacy enjoys life in the countryside with her family, dogs, and garden—all of which frequently find their way into her work. Her mission is simple: to help people slow down, notice the beauty around them, and remember how magical the little things in life can be.

I am a self-taught folk artist working primarily in acrylic paint on canvas, wood, walls, and windows. My work lives in homes, AirBnBs, and shop windows across Lookout Mountain and beyond—wherever a bit of color and nostalgia is needed. Deeply inspired by the music, art, and spirit of the 1960s and ’70s, my paintings celebrate the beauty of everyday southern life and the magic tucked inside ordinary moments. I paint bright, whimsical landscapes, southern foods, flowers, animals, and playful illustrations of classic songs—each piece echoing the warmth of “the good old days.” Though I was born decades after the flower child era, I’ve always felt like I belonged there, and my work reflects that sense of joyful time-travel. My style leans psychedelic, surreal, and sweet—often reminding viewers of work by Peter Max or Lisa Frank. Children are often drawn to the bright colors and dreamlike whimsy, and adults tell me my paintings make them smile and remember. That’s my goal: to spark happiness and a sense of return—to home, to memory, to simplicity. Through my work, I invite people to slow down and notice life’s quiet magic. A cloud shaped like a rabbit. A ladybug resting on a blade of grass. A four leaf clover hiding in plain sight. Spring flowers pushing up through the dirt. A fresh egg with toast in a sunny kitchen with a baby on your hip. A Beatles song playing while you dance barefoot on the front porch. I believe joy lives in these little things—and it doesn’t cost a dime to find it. You just have to remember to look.
